Nikki Wright is a seasoned attorney and executive administrator experienced in employment and business law; federal and state compliance; equal opportunity and DEI initiatives. Nikki is authorized to practice in Michigan and Texas.
Nikki was born and raised in Detroit, MI graduating from Cass Technical High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1991 from Wayne State University. She then attended Wayne State University Law School and earned her Juris Doctor in 1994. Nikki also earned a Diversity and Inclusion Certificate from Cornell University in May 2021.
Nikki has more than 20 years of experience practicing employment, EEO, and labor law in private practice as well as inside and outside counsel. Nikki broadened her experience working with multi-level complex organizations as Assistant Vice President and Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity at Wayne State University where she served for 8 years. Nikki provided compliance leadership, management and strategic planning for all equal opportunity matters, faculty & executive search committee best practices and support, discrimination/sexual harassment complaint processing and investigations, training, affirmative action, ADA, and Title IX efforts for the University’s nearly 5,000 employees and 26,000 students.
Some of Nikki’s accomplishments in higher education include designing software tools to support OFCCP compliance and search committee best practices; leading the University’s Office of Federal Contractor Compliance audit (OFCCP) which closed successfully with no violations; drafting and implementing the Title IX sexual misconduct policy and procedures; and appointment by the University President to serve as co-chair of the Faculty Hiring and Retention Committee established to support University efforts of diversity, equity and inclusion.
Understanding the importance of compliance, fair hiring practices, and nurturing a diverse and qualified workforce, Nikki founded Build Diversity Better, LLC and its consulting branch to support organizations with compliance and best practices.
Nikki personally supports charitable causes in her community. BDB similarly values charitable giving. The BDB Initiative was created to provide graduate students in financial need with scholarships to support their continued education.
In recognition of her professional accomplishments and community work, Nikki earned a 2021 Michigan Chronicle Women of Excellence Award. She was also recognized by WSU in their July 13, 2021 on-line magazine Today@Wayne.
